Lunch Specials

Since 1998, the term “Mittagswiesn” has come to describe not only a state of calm and bliss at Munich’s Oktoberfest, but also a specific concept designed to attract more visitors during the earlier hours of the festival. Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., most vendors have been offering discounts ever since. For rides, these are often in the range of family day rates, while the food stands offer individual special deals.
In most big tents, lunch specials on the menus have also become the norm. These are generally available Monday through Friday, except on holidays. However, the approach has changed for some tent operators. As a result, lunch dishes aren’t necessarily cheaper—they’re simply an additional option.
Some smaller tents now also offer lunch specials. At the Entenbraterei Heimer, for example, you can get a quarter duck with a side dish for an astonishing €19.90.
