Gun Salute

The nature of the Wiesn is multifaceted. Among other things, the Munich Oktoberfest is a shooting festival. At the end of the Oktoberfest national shooting competition of the Bavarian Shooting Sports Association, the award ceremony for the shooters takes place on the last day of the Oktoberfest at 10:00 a.m. in the Schützenfestzelt at the foot of the Bavaria. The public presentation of the state marksmen's kings will then take place in front of the tent at 12 noon. There will be brass bands, the Lord Mayor, the marksmen and, as a kind of highlight, the firecrackers and mountain troops. When they fire their guns for the Oktoberfest finale and the Bavarian anthem is sung, some people are bound to be melancholy for a moment at the thought of the imminent taps.
